INTERVIEW: StereoHeroes

There is no way better than to have our 100th post dedicated completely to the French duo, StereoHeroes. After creating and remixing countless tracks, they have drawn in the attention of thousands. Not to mention that they have a strong relationship with mega duo, Mustard Pimp. StereoHeroes are "M*****F****ng Heroes"

So, let’s start off with something easy. How did you two meet?

We were amongst the last ones on a dancefloor in Marseille. Few people were also standing there that night and decided to set up an after party, and there we met.

Where did the name StereoHeroes exactly come from?

Just out of our brains after we produced the few first tracks. We thought world needed heroes by the time. It still does.

Tell us a bit about yourselves such as some early childhood memories?

Sébastien : I remember my mum taking me from school with the truck to bring me to some cock fights. I remember Roger making me jump on his knees. I remember bright colors and weird smells.
I don't remember anything ...

Is it surprising on how much praise you are getting from overseas I.E. The US?

It's as surprising as it's great. Thanks to Internet, this guy is our best buddy. In a few months we gained popularity all over the world and had the chance to go and play in every country where they listen to our music. USA included, great following over there and always a fantastic response at our shows.

Your equipment of choice for producing music?

We kept it easy so far. A macintosh and some pieces of software. Always been big fans of Ableton. We are starting to acquire some hardware though. Nothing like the sound of a real synth.

When you go through certain songs that you decide to remix, what do you look for?

We try to hear if there is something we'll be able to keep to make a new different version of the song (vocals, melodic parts). If there is nothing we can or want to keep, we usually don't do the remix.

Out of every song that you have made, which one are you most proud of?

Wow. It's hard to say now, because we produced something like a hundred originals and/or remixes.
Always really proud of the first ones, washout, boom slang. And Lamborghini Lungz as our first hip-hop song.

If you weren't producing music, what do you think you guys would be doing?

Sebastien : I'd still be in the cock fight business.

What other artists would you say have a major influence on your work?

Kool & the gang, La compagnie Créole, The Gipsy Kings, Guillaume and the Coutou Dumonts.
We like to think we do our own kind of sound. Influences come from eveywhere, metal, hip hop, pop, variety... But nothing in particular really.

It came to our attention that you guys work with Mustard Pimp quite a lot and spend a large amount remixing their tracks. Can you tell us a bit about how this relationship was formed and where it’s headed?

Well,  we started almost at the same time and felt a little bit like we were alone in France doing what we do. So we naturally got close and started working together. From this came exchange of remixes and original tracks like Shark Spray.
There are a few more originals coming, but it's a secret !!
And as I just asked Mustard Pimp about this question, he said : "it's none of your business" ;)

Who are some of your favorite Artists out right now?

Guys like Wolfgang Gartner, Afrojack, Cyberpunkers ...

Who are some up and comers that we should look out for in the near future?

Some of the guys from our agency like: iIll Saint M, Modek or artists like Lucky Date, Haezer, Pelussje ...

Any tunes you can’t stop listening to right now?

Not really. After a week end listening music we listen to the silence !

Do you have big plans for the year of 2011?

New eps, new costumes, new graphic design, and another world tour hopefully with a stop in the USA ...

Thanks Guys! Looking forward to seeing you in the near future!
