Kevin (Dem Slackers) is one of the hottest growing producers/DJs on the planet right now! He recently just released his new EP "The Global Grind" on Downright Records. Featuring a nasty remix from Baskerville. You can buy the EP right now on Beatport... Here
Kevin took the time to answer some questions for us about the new EP... and just about everything else! How many of you are Slackers for a living?? If you are...then you'll definitely love his live shows!
You can listen to some of his older work on his soundcloud here! His Fifty What Remix is deadly...
Check out the interview and EP after the jump!
So first off, have you always been a dance music producer?
Nope! I started out making hiphop and switched to dance later on.
Where are you based out of right now?
I'm currently living in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
You get huge support from artist all over the globe such as Tiesto and especially from Bart B More. It seems like you have a pretty good relationship with him? You had two of his remixes on your last EP “Let’s GO!” Can you tell us a little bit about how that relationship formed?
We live in the same city, so that's probably a big reason why we started to hang out.
I can't really recall how it happened though. I assume it was because he played my tunes, and had me making that "Fifty What" remix for his label "Secure Recordings".
Do you see yourself as having a massive collaboration with Mr. More in the future? Or maybe it has already been produced but not released??
Spot on! We've already made a tune, and it's pretty much finished.
We're planning on releasing it on "Secure" so keep your eyes peeled.
Your new EP “Global Grind” was just released on the 28th of april! We couldn’t have been more excited to add Global Grind to our itunes. Baskerville crushed it on their remix as well. How do think this EP differs from your last few?
It just sounds more complete. I'm constantly growing as an artist, and with this new one I wanted to make a banger in the style of my "Fifty What" remix but, a bit more electro'ish.
With the b-side "Are You Ready" I felt like making a techno tune with a weird little twist.
And yeah, you're right, the Baskerville guys did a great job remixing for me. Go check them out on the web.
Who are some of your favorite artists out right now?
Bart B More, Lorenz Rhode, Breakbot, Mac Miller, Siriusmo to name a few.
Any secrets you want to share with your fans?
I like to stack coins on top of eachother according to their size.
What are your plans for 2011? Maybe an overseas US tour!?
I'm doing a big tour in Australia and New Zealand in July. Loads of sick gigs coming up in Ibiza, Portugal, France, England, Scotland, Belgium, Holland (obviously) and loads more as well so it's going to be a fun year! Oh and next to all the gigs I'm making lots and lots of music.
Some people say that since EDM is getting so large it’s starting to trend away from its original roots and blend into more pop like cultures. What is your opinion on this debate?
I think it's great that pop and dance are getting more involved with each other. Music is a wonderful thing and I'd like to share my songs with as many people as possible. If the EDM scene gets bigger because of the pop world accepting it, then so be it! We should all profit from this because, what has ever come out of hating (besides anger and a lot of unnecessary stress).
What is one song or EP that you are most proud of producing?
I'm really proud of my Aston Shuffle remix. Also really happy with my "Judas" and "Fifty What" mixes because they gave me so much profile, and so many new people to share the slacker lifestyle with.
Three tracks you can’t stop listening to?
Bart B More - Traction
Doctor P - Watch Out
Lorenz Rhode - Like A Player
Well thanks for taking the time to let your fans know what’s up! Cheers!
