INTERVIEW: Liberty!

Today is a very special day. Not only for you readers but for us over here at Electrolights. In less than a year we've come a very long way and we have you all to thank!  Without you we wouldn't have one of the largest interviews we've ever done to date. The interview is done by none other than one of my favorite electro duo's Liberty!. The first time I heard Liberty months ago I was blown away by their sound. Their Drivepilot remix made me wonder why electro and classical aren't mixed together more often? You can listen to the remix here. This duo is the next generation of electronic music. Their style is like none other and can not be topped. I have a feeling that very soon they will be taking the world by storm... Dan and Jeremy are always hard at work to make the next best track and actually have a new release coming very soon! So keep your ears and eyes peeled because it's HUGE! So now without further ado, I give you Liberty...

For those who’ve been living under rock, care to tell us a bit about yourself?

Well, we’re Liberty...a duo from Los Angeles, California with a lot of music pouring out of our brains.  We aspire to take over the world one pair of pants at a time.

Why did you guys decide to name yourselves Liberty?

It kind of ties into the whole theme of our songs, it’s a huge story that will reveal itself once we’ve reached our goal from question number one (fingers crossed).

Could you tell our readers a bit about your musical roots?

Our influences are basically a combination of electro with a bit of classical, baroque, and rock.

How and when did you know you wanted to produce electro?

It hit us when we both realized that bands weren’t working haha.

What is your equipment of choice for producing music?

All of our music is produced between Logic 9 and Reason 4.  In more detail, we use Reason for creating most of our sounds and Logic for the arranging/mixing down.  Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you have a bedroom studio, or a SSL board and 20 hardware synths...in the end a banger can be made with any program on any computer.  It’s all about the amount of time spent and drive you have for your passion.  

Are there any producers at the moment you think we should be keeping our eyes on?

Your top three favorite tunes at moment?

In 10 words or less how would you describe yourself?

Fucking Awesome...

Oh shit! Your Studio is on fire! You only have time to save one piece of gear! What is it?

Our computer of course...who wouldn't grab their entire lives work first?

Who are some artists that have had a strong influence on your work?

Top four would be: Danger, Nine Inch Nails, BBr, and Skrillex.

Tell us your best "OH SHIT!" moment?

If by that you mean, the most exciting point of our career so far...it would be our recent show in Denver, Colorado.  The crowd there was so inspiring....nothing but good vibes and great fucking energy!  They know how to rage and make an artist feel loved.  

If you could play any festival in the world which one would it be?

Glastonbury....

If you had the choice to produce your music anywhere else in the world (besides LA) where would it be?

I don’t think we’d pick anywhere else. L.A.’s scene has definitely helped shape our sound.

Tell us a bit about your new EP? You have some huge remixers on it such as TROWA! Did the final product turn out as you imagined it to?

Our EP “ThunderFist” comes out mid June!  It’s been a long process getting this release together, but the outcome was worth it.  With two amazing remixers, Trowa & Over The Top + vocals from electro’s most popular MC Whiskey Pete...how could you go wrong?  

Any big plans for 2011? Maybe a US tour? (Fingers crossed)

A lot of things are in the works at the moment...we even have a European tour currently being put together!  It’s too soon to give you guys any solid details, but we’ll keep you posted ;)
