So first off, where are you from?
I grew up in Englewood, NJ only a few miles from Spanish Harlem NYC. Don't let that confuse you though, it's a fairly nice area.
Not many of us have really ever heard of you... Is this a new alias or are you just a brand new producer?
My debut release - a collab with Sue Cho - released under my actual name, Barnett Lobel. Other than that, this is a new alias.
What got you started in producing electronic music?
It's funny because I distinctly remember hating electronic music only about three years ago. Three years ago I was living in Vancouver and my roommate - a Scottish sound engineer - used to consistently blast tech house in our apartment. I really think he incepted me.
What software do you use when you produce your music?
I tend to switch my DAWs depending on my mood but mainly Logic, Live, and Reason. The plugins I use are more or less what everyone else in the industry is using i.e. Native Instruments, LennarDigital, Vengeance, etc.
If you could open for anyone who would it be?
Until the day when other artists can answer "Acetronik" for this question, I would say Deadmau5 ONLY if he'd let me use at least 1/3rd of his light setup.
If you could play any festival which one would it be?
Ultra Music Festival.
Your new E.P. is coming out on August 15th! Care to share a bit of inside info about it and how it came together?
It was originally slated for August 15th but has now been pushed back to August 22nd. The E.P. follows up my first track - level 1 - "Yours Tonight" and continues to hone in on my style. I am still developing a sound I can truly call my own... "Make Me Feel Good" (the E.P.) is level 2.
I've really been inspired by the electronic music coming from Brazilian artists like Felguk, DirtyLoud, Darth & Vader, Chrizz Luvly, etc. so I find it very fitting that I teamed up with the Braslive Records to release this one. Remix work from Darth & Vader and Eric Farias will be on the E.P. as well.
Do you have any secret tracks that you would want to give your fans a preview to? Or is that strictly confidential and under 30 feet of solid concrete?
Secret tracks, YES. 30 feet of concrete may be a bit much, I'd say closer to 5 or 10 feet. Previews, unfortunately not yet. All I can say is at least another track with Sue Cho, work with Tiesto's label Musical Freedom, some great collabs with people you know, and incredibly fun bootlegs.
Who are some your major influences?
I love the latest generation of EDM producers like Porter Robinson, Zedd, Skrillex, and Feed Me. As far as staples, Wolfgang Gartner and the harder hitting stuff of Deadmau5.
Ali Love - Diminishing Returns (Alvin Risk Remix)
Felguk - Blow Out (Original Mix)
Spencer & Hill - Dance (Original Mix) *Out August 2nd 2011*
Any big plans for the second half of the year?
Bigger releases, collabs, remixes, and in the not to distant future... live performance.
Do you have a few producers to watch out for (besides yourself)?
Aside from the aforementioned named, Alvin Risk is going to be huge. Also The M Machine and Tommy Trash.
You're in a contest right now? Care to tell everyone what it's about?
Yes! I originally tried keeping it under the radar but at this point the cat's out of the bag. I submitted an unreleased dubstep track - my only dubstep track - to a contest in which the winner performs at Identity Festival. I need votes to make it to the next round so if you listen to the track, take a second to click vote! It's a why-not thing.
Tracks:
Here is his debut dubstep track (his only dubstep track) for the contest! Be sure to vote for him!!
