So first off, who exactly are you?
I'm Nick. I make many styles of music under many different monikers...
You have like 13432423 different alises, how did you come about making all of them?
Well, that would be an incredibly long answer if I were to get specific. I came about making them by making the new projects. They needed names!
Bro Safari is your latest alias if I am correct? It seems like it's mainly focused around moombahton?
This is indeed my most recent moniker. It started a few years ago to just be an outlet for anything "different" from what I was doing with Evol Intent (my dnb group) at the time. Bro Safari started out as Glitch, then moved to focus on Dubstep and now I am in love with this new tempo, 110. However, even though I'm fully enthralled with Moombahton, I'm still producing all sorts of music as Bro Safari. I plan on doing some 4x4 / House stuff soon.
Moombahton is catching on like the swine flu! What do you think is in store for it's future?
I think it's doing great so far. It definitely has the potential to blow up really big and I'm going to do my best to be a part of that. WIth that being said, it's important that the producers help guide the scene into the right direction.
Do you like the direction it is headed?
Yes, I do. People like Munchi, Dillon Francis, UFO!, Will Bailey and many more have really put unique spins on the style and I think that's what we need more of. One thing that does concern me about the direction of the scene is the slight lack of originality at times. I know that the genre has its roots in "edits" and bootlegs, but I think that it's time that more producers give that up and move towards 100% original production. I think the goal is to legitimize this genre and when we rehash songs from other genres, it doesn't really do that. We kinda of put ourselves underneath those genres. Big ups to anyone producing anything moombahton related though. Don't want to come off as a hater or anything. Just calling it like I see it! More original music will bring in more interest from the general public.
What exactly sparked your interest to start creating Moombahton?
Like many others, I heard Munchi's remix of "Firepower" by Datsik. That, and Dillon Francis' remix of "Spacemen" by Vaski. Those 2 tunes sparked my interest and my involvement in the genre sort of snowballed from there.
How long ago did you start producing?
I started producing electronic music in 1999. I was playing in bands and making music since I was in middle school though.
Who were your first influences in producing EDM?
My very first influences in EDM were people like Roni Size, Technical Itch, Ed Rush & Optical and other Drum and Bass producers from the late 90's.
If you could play any festival in the world on the main stage, which one would it be?
Tough question. I'd probably go with something that isn't TOO big. While it'd be surreal to play the main stage at Coachella, I don't think the music would resonate with that many people very easily.
What is your greatest memory out of any show you have played?
Clearly I was too intoxicated to remember such an event.
If you weren't producing what do you think you would be doing?
If I weren't producing, I'd be playing guitar in a band!
Oh shit! Your studio is on fire!! You can only save one thing... Which one is it?!
Laptop excluded? Adam a8x monitors.
Tell us a little bit about what is in store for Bro Safari! As far as up coming releases and such?
Any big shows planned to cap off 2011?
Nothing in particular, no. I hope to do some Moombahton Massive shows this year though. *Wink Wink - Nudge Nudge - Dave Nada - Cough Cough*
Do you have any secrets you would like to share with your fans?
No secrets. This relationship just won't work if we keep secrets from each other…… Okay fine, here's one. I am working on starting up a limited-edition-style record label. The goal would be to push music that isn't necessarily just Moombahton, but in general I'd like to push more post-dubstep and future-bass music with a ghetto twist.
Three tunes you can't stop listening to?
UFO! - Reptilian Sex Parade, Mayhem - Player Hater, UMAN - Cheap Thrills
Who are some artists to keep our eyes on for the future?
UFO!, Mayhem, UMAN, Nerd Rage, LeDoom etc
Well, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do this! Cheers!
No worries! Take care and let's do it again soon.
Shout outs to everyone for supporting me and this project! Big ups to Craze, Mendez and everyone @ El Cuco , Dillon Francis, Diplo and Mad Decent for pushing my sound and giving me a platform to release my music!
